An iconic cocktail that can be recreated at home, the signature Schweppes Flemington Fling is the perfect drink trackside this year during the Melbourne Cup Carnival. Created by Dave Kerr of Melbourne’s The Beaufort, the Schweppes Flemington Fling can be found at the Schweppes Flemington Fling Bar on Level 1, Hill Stand, during the 2013 Melbourne Cup Carnival.

The cocktail was inspired with fresh ingredients in mind. The cocktail has fresh mint and fresh lime juice to give a fresh twist, as well as Schweppes Agrum Blood Orange flavour, a splash of Vodka and a generous amount of ice. The key to making the cocktail, Kerr says, is to make sure that you crush the mint to release the aroma before adding it to the drink. He explains that 80% of what you drink is aroma and that one small step helps to enhance the aroma of the cocktail.

In addition to the Flemington Fling, there are four other cocktails with wonderful names such as the Pompelmo Spritz, Ginger Truth Serum and Creole Crush all using fresh and seasonal ingredients.

“The Schweppes Flemington Fling cocktail is bright, creative and delicious and truly encapsulates the spirit and excitement of spring racing, so whether you’re track-side at the Bar or watching the races at home, we hope Australians enjoy celebrating the Melbourne Cup Carnival with a Schweppes Flemington Fling in hand,” said Hanan Eissa, Senior Brand Manager – Schweppes.

The Schweppes Flemington Fling Bar will be open to the public from 9:30am until 30 minutes after last race on AAMI Victoria Derby Day (Saturday, 2 November), Emirates Melbourne Cup (Tuesday, 5 November), Crown Oaks Day (Thursday, 7 November) and Emirates Stakes Day (Saturday, 9 November).
