Another day, another red carpet – It is awards season, after all! The Screen Actors Guild Awards have just been, with our favourite celebrities turning out more amazing looks. Red carpet favourites, Cate Blanchett, Amy Adams, and Lupita Nyong’o continued their winning streak, wearing more stunning fashion, and many others stepping up their style leading to the biggest night of fashion, the Oscars. What were the looks we loved? Glad you asked!

GRECIAN DRAPING

One of the biggest trends seen on the carpet was Greek goddess redux. Fresh of her Golden Globe win, Cate Blanchett wore a classic draped Givenchy gown, but with a 2014 twist. The metallic pink embellishment, and choice of accessories made the look more modern, and simple hair and make up didn’t draw attention away from the gown. New Girl‘s Hannah Simone chose an ethereal Marchesa look to play with the trend. The pale blue accentuated her skin tone, and by wearing her hair up, the delicate rosettes on the neckline got to shine. Boardwalk Empire‘s Gretchen Mol kept the trend to the lower half of her look. Her J. Mendel look featured a structured cap sleeve top and a draped slit skirt giving a fresh take to the trend.

HEAVY METALS

We saw many celebrities play with embellishments at the Golden Globes, and at the SAG awards, the trend made another appearance. Game Of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke took a minimalistic take, with a liquid metal-esque Calvin Klein Collection gown. Keeping accessories simplistic, and with a touch of old Hollywood glamour in her hair and make-up, her look made her one of our favourites. Not so simple was Trophy Wife‘s Malin Akerman, taking a difficult to carry Naeem Khan gown and made it her own with her stature and simple hair and make up. Homeland‘s Claire Danes played with hard and soft, with her Vionnet gown made up of chiffon and large navy sequins.

JEWEL TONES

Jewel tone dresses were another major trend on the red carpet at the SAG awards. Gravity star Sandra Bullock redeemed herself from her look from the Golden Globes in an emerald-hued origami cocktail dress from Lanvin. The cut gave her look an edge, and a messy bun kept the look current. New red carpet favourite, Lupita Nyong’o stunned again, this time in Gucci. The turquoise column gown was classic, and the embellishment along the neckline added the wow factor. Repping Australia was TV presenter Renee Bargh, wearing a stunning scarlet laced gown by fellow Australian, Steven Khalil. The look was kept youthful with pin straight hair slicked back and kept the eye on the lacework of the gown.

NAVY IS THE NEW BLACK

While some chose black for their gowns, the hue of the night was navy. American Hustle‘s Amy Adams’ cut out Antonio Beradi gown played fantastically with her hair and the asymmetric bodice added a bit of excitement to the look. Fashion Police host Kelly Osbourne wore a hand sewn pin tucked Zac Posen gown that hugged her curves and added drama to the carpet. Nominee and Golden Globe winner Jennifer Lawrence chose Christian Dior couture again, but a dramatically different look to her Golden Globes gown. The strapless column gown was embellished with sequins, so hair and make up was kept to a minimum.

SUITS & (BOW) TIES

To add a formal touch to proceedings, many men opted to choose bow ties for their neckwear. Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul chose a classic black tuxedo from Burberry, while 30 Rock‘s James Marsden injected a bit of colour into his look with a navy suit, and Dallas Buyer’s Club star Jared Leto wore a black Dior Homme narrow lapel suit, and eschewed the traditional black tie in favour fo a white  bow tie, and finished his look with black patent-leather derbies.

BEST DRESSED COUPLES

L to R: Matthew McConaughey and Camilla Alves, Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso , Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita

We all love a power couple, and the best of them shone on the SAG carpet. Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camilla Alves looked like they stepped out of old Hollywood, him in a three piece Dolce and Gabbana suit, and her in a vintage chantruese Donna Karan Atelier gown. Also in D&G was Matt Damon, with his wife Luciana Barroso opting for a white Pamella Roland peplum gown. Opting for colour was Modern Family‘s Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his husband, Justin Mikita, both opting for coloured Ted Baker slim cut suits.

Did we miss any outstanding looks from our list? Let us know. In the meantime, we’ll be daydreaming about what everyone will be wearing at the BAFTAS!
