Cheese lovers rejoice! Prahran Market is bringing back its Say Cheese Festival for the seventh year and, in 2020, you can participate from the comfort of your own home. A series of three, free cheesy virtual events will be held between 10 th – 12 th September.

You will find a Say Cheese Festival page on Food Lover’s Direct, where you can register for the free events, buy the event packs if you want to taste or cook-a-long, purchase other cheesy goodies and the new Prahran Market ‘Distance Makes the Heart Fondue’ tea towel.

So, what can you expect?

Thursday 10th September, 7pm: Around the World with Cheese
Embark on an international journey of cheese as Tobie Puttock takes you on a virtual cheese inspired trip. You will travel the world with some of our Traders’ international and local cheeses. Chad from Pete N Rosie’s Deli will be on hand to answer any of your questions. At this free event you can learn about different varieties of cheese, their tastes, textures and uses.

A tasting box is available for purchase via Prahran Market’s Food Lover’s Direct here if you want to taste along. The tasting box contains a variety of cheeses from each of the following traders and is priced $55 (plus $15 delivery) – Pete N Rosie’s Deli, Naheda’s Choice, The Cheese Shop Deli, The Food House and Chaso’s Gourmet Deli. The tasting packs contain 14 different cheeses and will be delivered on Wednesday 9th and Thursday the 10th of
September.

Friday 11 th September, 6pm: Cooking with Kathy – A Cheesy Greek Dinner with Kathy Tsaples
Sweet Greek’s Kathy Tsaples will take you to the Mediterranean and guide you through preparing a delicious three-course Greek meal. Of course, each of the dishes will champion cheese and be perfect for a Friday evening dinner.

If you want to get in on the action, you can purchase the accompanying recipe kit box and cook-a-long with Kathy. You simply need to add a few pantry staples such as olive oil, eggs, butter, flour and salt & pepper. The recipe kit box will be perfect for a family or a couple who loves leftovers. It is available from Food Lover’s Direct here, priced $120 (plus $15 delivery).

Deliveries will be on Thursday 10 th and Friday 11 th September.

Saturday 12 th September, 3pm: Prahran Market’s Grilled Cheese Invitational
Back for its third year, the Grilled Cheese Invitational will pit some of Melbourne’s best chef talent against each other to create the event’s best cheese toastie. The fun and free event will see contestants Jerry Mai (Annam, Pho Nom and Bia Hoi), Philip Vakos (Bahari) and Raph Rashid (Beatbox Kitchen, Juanita Peaches and That 80s Cooking Show) preparing their toastie before the judges ask questions and score on name, appearance and taste. This year’s judge lined up is Gary Mehigan (Plate of Origin, Masterchef), Anthony Femia (Maker & Monger) and last year’s winner Darren Purchese (Burch & Purchese).
