Michelle Aznavorian has always been destined to thrive in fashion. Working her way up from fashion student, to buyer, to sought after designer, her label MISHA COLLECTION has been going from success to success…not to mention New York Fashion Week’s event, Fashion Palette. Couturing spoke to Michelle ahead of the show about her inspiration, New York Fashion Week, and what’s coming up next.
What was the inspiration behind the collection to be shown at Fashion Palette?
MISHA COLLECTION drew inspiration for the SS15 collection from the classic elegance of the cult Film Noir and femme fatales. With the use of the seductive, powerful blacks, and the sensuous & sophisticated whites, MISHA COLLECTION SS15 embodies both simplicity and elegance.
You’re following in the footsteps of other illustrious Australian designers by being a part of this event; was showing at this show a goal of yours?
It has been a long term goal to feature a collection in New York. Luckily enough I have had the amazing opportunity to show in the early days of the companies growth, which is more than I could have ever imagined.
New York [Fashion Week’s] Fashion Palette will be an amazing experience to show case Misha Collection’s understanding of the powerful allure of European inspired styling and it’s ability to empower women to portray their individuality and sense of value and status.
Your pieces are equal part sexy, but sophisticated; what represents those qualities to you?
These qualities are represented through the Misha woman, who is daring, strong and has an alluring sense of self. Our statement pieces represent the female form which is expressed through our various styles and exemplifies a woman’s need to be elegant, glamorous and chic.
You’ve gained a celebrity following already, but do you have a wish list of people to dress?
MISHA COLLECTION to date has dressed both Australian and international celebrities as well as fashion icons, However Misha Collection’s style muses would include Miranda Kerr and Irina Shayk.
Finally, after NYFW, what’s in the works for you?
Misha Collection will continue to produce and design collections according to our signature European inspired styling while using our recurrent palette of black, white and ivory.
