I’m really loving the re-emergence of mod beauty looks at the moment, and I think that Lana Del Rey’s signature eye perfectly encapsulates that balance between retro and modern makeup. While I’ve managed to establish the technique required for this look, my attempts at re-creating it on myself have fallen rather flat, given that my eyes have probably one-fifth of the lid space of Lana’s amazing and enormous eyes. Let me live vicariously through you lucky gals with double eye-lids.

Apply white kohl eyeliner all over the lid. Using your ring finger, blend the eyeliner well into the lid. Dust over Illamasqua Eye Shadow in Sex to set the kohl.

Cut the crease of the eye with a charcoal eyeshadow: using an angled brush, apply it on the line of the crease only. Blend well with a MAC #217, working slightly upwards and building more colour as necessary.

Using an angled brush to apply black gel liner, create a strong winged eye. The size of the flick depends on what suits you personally, as well as how dramatic you want it to be.

If you have large eyes like Lana, take a black kohl liner and line the bottom waterline. Use your angled brush to join the kohl with the winged flick at the outer corner, and to blend and smudge the kohl on the waterline for a slightly smokey effect.

If you have small eyes, only apply the kohl liner on the outer third of the bottom lash line, or skip this step altogether.

Apply PLENTY of mascara on the top and bottom lashes. If you feel like going all out, add false lashes.

Finish with a matte lipstick in soft nude shade.
