Lizard Island has announced its second Food and Wine Event with celebrated chef Shane Delia, island Executive Chef Mark Jensen and wines by Penfolds and Yarra Valley producer, Levatine Hill Estate.

Since reopening in June 2015, following a $50 million refurbishment, Executive Chef, Mark Jensen has been creating a strong profile for Lizard Island’s food and wine experience and for the September event the award-winning chef, restaurateur and author Shane Delia will join him.

Delia’s Spice Journey is a global success and highlights the chefs his passion, knowledge and skills in creating the perfect balance of spices inspired by the Middle East.  Mark Jensen’s passion for the spices of South East Asia clearly influences his daily menus and will be showcased to a new level during the Food and Wine Event.

“The opportunity to keep my spice journey evolving on Lizard Island will be exciting.  I look forward to working with Mark Jensen and the local produce of the region to bring some truly amazing flavours to life during the Master Class and dinner events”, said Shane Delia.

“This is our second Food and Wine Event this year – and the spice theme just plays perfectly into my true culinary passion for complexities and varieties of the spices of South East Asia.  Working with Shane will be a highlight”, commented Mark Jensen.

GRUB FOOD VAN

Grub May 2016 0290

Fitzroy’s Grub – all of four years young – has established itself as one of the area’s most convivial spaces. This winter, Grub welcomes new head chef Scott Blomfield, who will expand an all-day concept that focuses strongly on lunch and dinner, as well as the successful weekend brunch and functions trade. The team is augmented by chef, sustainability advocate and urban gardening expert Ben McMenamin, who will help grow Grub’s sustainability ethos through the formidable greenhouse garden and the business as a whole –from ethical supplier chain to worm farm.

Guests can expect dishes that glorify the earth, farm and sea, such as, Braised short rib with roasted and pickled beetroot, stems, leaves, horseradish and feta snow; Black pearl barley and swimmer crab risotto with burnt butter emulsion and; Earth-baked sweet potato with Jerusalem artichokes, house-soured cream, and warrigal greens.

In addition to the authorship of a rotating daily chef’s menu, Blomfield will also build on the boards, brunch and canapé and functions offerings to further serve the wide range of groups that the venue can accommodate.

GO WEST – EATERY & TUCKSHOP OPENS IN WOODLEA

One of Melbourne’s most prolific café owners and restaurateurs, Jason M. Jones and coffee entrepreneur Ramez Abdulnour have injected a slice of café culture to Melbourne’s booming western suburbs, announcing their latest venture ‘Go West – Eatery & Tuckshop’ at Woodlea – a progressive masterplanned community located 29km west of Melbourne’s CBD.

Go West – Eatery & Tuckshop opened in April, and is inspired by Melbourne’s modern café culture, providing an ideal location for the community’s soon-to- be 10,000 new residents to experience the classic menu items and relaxed café vibe for which they are both renowned.

Boasting a long list of Melbourne dining institutions including Entrecôte and The Stables of Como (South Yarra), in addition to Porgie + Mr Jones (Hawthorn) and the newly launched Second Home (Eltham), this latest venture will mark Jones’ second foray into Melbourne’s growth suburbs, which he says is what he found most exciting about the venture. “ Melbourne’s west is undergoing an immense transformation as more young professionals and families seek to move away from the city and settle down in a more suburban location. We saw the café site at Woodlea as the perfect opportunity to branch out into the west and create something completely unique for the area,” said Jones.  “ Together with Ramez, we hope to create a unique destination café that takes all the great things we have learnt over the years of opening and running cafes within the city.  Coffee will be a focus and an all-day seasonal breakfast and lunch menu will cater for the diverse array of clientele that we expect to be out here,” said Jones.
