Melbourne has a plethora of different film, art and cultural festivals that celebrate the breadth of creative talent in our city. Although they all add to our artistic puzzle, the Emerging Writers’ Festival presents something incredibly refreshing via its ability to celebrate early and mid-career individuals. Ambassadors and panel members are relatable figures, often well-known but still rising in popularity and still playing the field or settling into their writing style.

Workshops like Meditation & Creativity, Screenwriting Intensive and Writing & Yoga are aimed at individuals still slaving away in the industry; those who struggle to stay active, find downtime or do time-consuming short courses to help widen their scope. Some impressive names including John Safran, Benjamin Law and Paul Verhoeven will be joined by others of equal calibre to discuss how they have written for the screen, comedy, public relations campaigns and the other various platforms the digital age has elevated us into.

Now in its 10th year, the Emerging Writers’ Festival continues to bring an impressive program spanning nearly all literary formats and frenzies.

The Emerging Writers’ Festival runs from the 23rd of May to the 2nd of July.
