As Editor-in-chief of Couturing.com, it’s Lisa’s job to stay up to date with the latest in fashion and beauty news. She brings you her top style tips to ensure you stand out this party season.
How do you prep before a night out?
Music always gets me pumped up for a night out. While I like listening to the same song on repeat, having a good playlist is a great way to get the night started!
What is your go to hairstyle/makeup look for a night out?
I usually wear a smokey eye during the day so if I’m heading out at night, I make it more dramatic by extending out the smudging. I usually wear tinted moisturiser during the day so mix that with a bit of foundation for a better coverage. If I want a pop of colour, I opt for a bright red lip. NARS’ Satin Lip Pencil in Mysterious Red is my current go-to favourite. If I’m going for a casual look I usually wear my hair in a side plait. If I want something a bit more slick I love a low or high ponytail.
When you’re going out, what are your must have items in your bag?
I always like to have lipbalm, my gel pot eyeliner and my NARS lip pencil if I’m wearing lippie. I always make sure my phone is fully charged and if I’m wearing new shoes, bandaids are a must! A solid perfume is always go to have in your bag. I’m loving Diptyque’s Du Son fragrance which comes in a beautiful, metal case.
Do you have any tips for looking fresh all night long?
It’s important to use a good primer before you apply your makeup. I’m usually Eve Lom’s new one which is great. You can also bring your eye or lip makeup for quick touch ups.
Your biggest fashion faux pas?
There are been way too many unfortunately! Although, someone once told me that if you look back three months and you still like what you are wearing, then you are stuck in a style rut! So now I try not to look back and see fashion mistakes, but rather use it as an indication of how my style has evolved.
What designers are you currently loving and why?
Toni Maticevski is always a favourite. The man is a fashion genius. He knows how to push the boundaries of style but in a way that is still wearable. Madam Virtue always do amazing things and are a great source of archival and vintage designer pieces. Thurley, Alice McCall and Zimmermann are also doing great things. Mossman, Sheike and Seed are great if you want something that’s on trend but on a budget.
Favourite places to shop?
I love shopping online in the comfort of my pjs but I do love going for a wonder around Chadstone or Chapel Street. Emporium is also great if you are looking for more of a luxe shopping experience.
Where do you look for style inspiration?
I love looking at how different people put an outfit together. Instagram is a great resource for getting new styling ideas and ways to interpret trends. In terms of style icons, I get inspiration from Olivia Palermo, Christine Centenera, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Victoria Beckham and Miranda Kerr for off-duty style and on the red carpet Kate Bosworth, Kate Hudson and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley generally always nail it.
