Couturing is covering the best beauty moments from the 87th Annual Academy Awards which wrapped up in Hollywood on Sunday night. Read on to see who made our list for best hair moments – from tousled undo’s to romantic waves – we have you covered.

As soon as Jennifer Lopez stepped out onto the Red Carpet, we knew she would get our vote for best hair look. Proving that keeping it simple can come out on top, J-Lo kept it classy with a slicked back high ponytail and wavy long locks. We noticed a subtle slit to the side of her hairline that helped minimise flyways. For the best results when recreating this look, add volume to the top of the pony by backcombing as close to the elastic as possible. To seal off the look, wrap a small strand of your hair around the tip to cover the elastic used.

Showing off the most romantic look of the night, Zoe Saldana stole our hearts deciding to wear her tresses in a messy low bun. A sharp centre part and soft loose curls framed her face, while the actress dashed the red carpet in true princess style. Hair stylist Mara Roszak created the look and sealed it with L’Oreal Paris Elnett Extra Hold Hairspray to ensure the style stayed in place all night. The L’Oreal Paris Ambassador and new mum showed off her tousled updo and nude-toned beauty look with ease while presenting an award later during the show.

Looking like the starlet she is, John Legend’s stunning wife put her glam foot forward with the most gorgeous 50’s waves created by Macadamia and Celebrity hair stylist Giannandrea. The one shoulder cascading golden waves were inspired by intense glamour and shine with ripples of blonde peaking through the roots and falling ever so slightly onto one side. To achieve the look, Giannandrea used a blow dryer and Macadamia’s Hot Curling Boar Bristle Brush in multiple different widths to achieve a range of folds all the way down the back.

Following through with the trend of the season, Marion Cotillard proved how to work an understated hair-up with a twist. The deep side part pulled back into an effortlessly twisted low bun at the nape of the neck complimented the stars features and shiny brunette locks. Mastermind behind the elegant look is session stlylist for ghd, Robert Vetica. Starting with wet hair, Robert created a deep side parting and began drying with a ghd air professional hairdryer ($199) in the direction of the style. Once dry, he used a ghd eclipse styler ($300) to smooth and direct the style. Once smoothed, Robert pulled all the hair into a low side pony over the ear on the opposite side to the parting, and rolled into a chignon, pinning until all the hair is secure.

Keeping it cool, calm and collected with signature Californian waves, Keira Knightley debuted a softer side to her usual red carpet up-do. Creating the look for the night was session stylist for ghd Ben Skervin who was inspired by “relaxed romance”. A matching headband was placed to bring out an angelic side to the pregnant star, dazzling with long flowing locks. “We wanted something the opposite of the formal gown she was wearing,” says Skervin about the look. “It was important that her hair did not appear too done, like she could have done it herself.”

How you can recreate the look:

  1. Prep hair with a smoothing primer and rough-dry with a ghd air professional hairdryer until nearly dry.
  2. Roughly divide the hair into five sections, twisting each one before drying until completely dry (this helps with the loose texture).
  3. Next, use your fingers to comb out the twists and take the ghd classic wave wand ($220) and work 4cm sections to create loose curls.
  4. Using a soft brush, brush out the hair to give a more uniformed texture. To finish, use a fine mist of texture spray all over the hair while using the ghd air professional hairdryer ($199) on a low heat and speed setting until dry.

All of the mentioned ghd products are available from approved ghd salons, Mecca Maxima and Kit stores and
