It’s not often that you get the opportunity to check out an $8m penthouse apartment but when you do, it’s hardly a forgettable experience. Moreover, when the penthouse has been styled and interior decorated by one of the world’s best fashion illustrators, it’s a night to remember.
The Array apartments are the last of a series of buildings developed by Mirvac that line Yarra’s Edge in the Docklands with the thirty nine level building hosting 199 apartments including two dual level penthouses on the upper level. Unbeknownst to me, penthouses are few and far between these days with many new buildings just having a top floor that are similar in design to the rest of the spaces in the building. To have two dual level penthouses in the building is unique and really do represent the epitome of luxury city living. The spacious penthouses have been designed so that the spaces are warm and inviting with a resplendent living area that has double height windows that provide a panoramic view of the Melbourne skyline and the Yarra River.
Mirvac enlisted the talent of Fashion Illustrator, Megan Hess, to style and interior design the East penthouse. Known for her work with Prada, Dior, Chanel and the cover of the Sex and the City book, this was Megan’s first foray into the world of interior design and she didn’t disappoint.
The inside of this Penthouse was like a dream turned into reality, with beautiful curated rooms, each with a theme and featuring one-off tailored artworks, home wares and bedding by Megan. The penthouse features four bedrooms, four bathrooms meaning that there was a significant amount of work to be done to style and design each room.
Megan explained that the first step in designing each room was to draw inspiration from the artwork that she had designed. The colour palette, theme and feel of the room came out of the artwork for each room. It’s surprising that this is Megan’s first interior design project as the whole penthouse was luxuriously decorated yet still had a homely feel, a balance that people find hard to achieve.
Starting with the living area and the double height space, gave Megan the opportunity to create her largest artwork to date. The dazzling artwork set the tone of the room with a soft golden colour palette. A bespoke couch by Fendi, made especially for the apartment, as well as ottomans designed by Versace and a Roberto Cavalli leather, snakeskin look coffee table, take centre place in the living area. Megan also created and designed her first piece of furniture, a marble dining table with a gold leaf base to complement the high fashion furnishing in the living area.
The study has been decorated with bespoke Megan Hess wallpaper, white arches against a black background, create a serious yet relaxed area whilst the master bedroom is light hearted with specially designed bedding and cushions with a stunning ensuite that features 24carat Versace bathroom accessories.
Contrast these spaces to the retreat area on the second floor with a marvellous round couch against a backdrop of another one of Megan’s bespoke artwork in shades of beige and dusty pink, or to the Hitchcock room that is distinctly masculine with prints from Alfred Hitchcock’s most famous films, the penthouse is completely filled with distinct rooms that all seem to make the entire apartment fit together.
The complete interior package is valued at over $400,000 giving the purchaser the opportunity to move into the world’s first Megan Hess interior designed penthouse if they choose to purchase the property complete with the interior design. With an amazing amount of attention to detail, right down to the drinks tray having a stirrer and bottle opener, this apartment has been immaculately designed and furnished.
If you’re in the market for a new house and have that kind of coin in your bank account then this is definitely the place for you. I can only imagine what it would be like to come home to this every night….
