Since taking over the reigns at Balenciaga from Nicolas Ghesquière, all eyes have been on Alexander Wang to see how he copes with the pressure of taking over one of the hottest fashion labels in the world right now.

For his first campaign for the fashion house, Wang seems to have taken inspiration from his own line’s editorials. In a departure from Ghesquière’s colourful campaigns, Wang’s debut campaign for Balenciaga is based on an on-trend monochrome palette, similar to that of his own campaigns.

Where Ghesquière was a fan of using celebrities to promote his collections, Kristen Stewart, Giesele Bundchen and Jennifer Connolly all fronting past campaigns, Wang has used Kristen McMenamy to model his latest collection. The editorial is all about the clothes and the accessories with the shots cutting out McMenamy’s head and limbs such as arms which may distract away from the collection, tucked away.

We are loving this new direction for Balenciaga. It’s refreshing to see a designer make his mark on a label while remaining respectful to a fashion house’s history.
