As the year draws to a close, we’re celebrating the best dressed celebrities in all their stylish glory. From Emma Watson’s tailored take on suiting, Blake Lively’s transition from red carpet fixture to hot momma to be, to Rihanna’s rule breaking wardrobe – we take you through their best looks of 2014.
THE STRUCTURED STAR: EMMA WATSON
This year, Emma Watson made the transition from child star to fully fledged actress – due in no small part to stand out looks on the red carpet. Favouring sharp tailoring, masculine styles, her classic but edgy signature easily has awarded her a spot on many best dressed lists.
THE REBEL: RIHANNA
No one embodies personal style as well as Rihanna. Always a fashion rebel, she moves from Grecian goddess to street style star with ease, and is happy in clothes as she is out (can anyone forget that dress from this year’s CFDA awards?). Forever fearless, forever fashionable, Bad Gal RiRi is one of our favourites this year.
THE MOST EVOLVED: BLAKE LIVELY
Stealing the show at Cannes looking every part of the golden Hollywood star she is, to making headlines with a carefully released baby bump picture, Blake Lively hasn’t put a stiletto-heeled foot wrong this year. Pregnancy hasn’t hampered her style, with Mrs Reynolds evolving her all-American style into haute mum to be territory.
THE NEW ICON: AMAL CLOONEY
It’s hard to imagine that 12 months ago, Amal Alamuddin was a relative unknown. Now as Amal Clooney, her style, not her new last name, has catapulted her into the style stratosphere. Chic and classic, with a touch of rebelliousness, Amal has cemented herself as a new breed of style icon.
THE CHAMELEON: CATE BLANCHETT
Cate is definitely the great when it comes to daring red carpet fashion. A true chameleon, she moves from classic Chanel pieces to reptilian Givenchy couture with ease, and has earned her place on best dressed lists the world over.
THE QUEEN B: BEYONCÉ
Spending most of her 2014 on stage, Beyoncé has mastered the art of translating personal style into performance looks (although, it doesn’t hurt to have her designer friends on call!). Mixing high street and haute couture, Yoncé has made sure that she is as known for her fashion wins to her music.
THE NEWCOMER: LUPITA NYONG’O
Joining Amal as a new style icon is actress, Lupita Nyong’o. Offering bold, exciting silhouettes in a sea of monochrome on the red carpets, Lupita quickly has become the fashion world’s latest It Girl – with designers flocking to dress her.
THE MODEL MUSE: GIGI HADID
Making waves as one of the new breed of supermodel, Gigi Hadid has established herself as one of fashion’s one to watch. Born into the fashion world by way of model mum, Yolanda Foster (and sister to Bella Hadid), Gigi is the beacon of fun, sexy fashion – showing that even though she’s young, she has created a personal style.
THE BLONDE BOMBSHELL: MARGOT ROBBIE
2014 marked Margot Robbie’s jump from soap star to silver screen bombshell, as well as her planting her feet in the fashion world. Approaching every look with classic, old Hollywood glamour, she has established herself as a style authority and easily is one of 2014’s best dressed women.
THE ENGLISH ROSE: ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY
Whether she’s off duty or on, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley epitomises European elegance. From jaw dropping red carpet looks, to a chic casual shirt and jeans combo – RHS is the coolest girl next door (one whose wardrobe you want to raid!)
